Best Car Seat Strollers for Twins
Having twins is hard enough. Make it as easy as possible during the first year (more or less) by getting a lightweight stroller frame so you can simply plop your car seats (with babies in ’em, obviously) into the stroller.
And that’s all.
Keep it simple in the early days so you aren’t overwhelmed.
Note that there are many other full-sized, all-terrain strollers that also take two infant seats at the same time, such as the City Select, Mountain Buggy Duet, Bugaboo Donkey, the Bumbleride Indie Twin, and others. While these all-terrain strollers ride a lot better, they are also MUCH bulkier and heavier (20 lbs vs. 35 lbs), which can be overwhelming for new twin moms, especially for those who just had a c-section (right?).
Thus, most twin moms recommend keeping it simple with one of the best car seat strollers for twins. You can upgrade to your heavier-duty, more capable stroller later, when you have a bit more gusto and a better understanding of what your needs truly are (usually around 9 months or so).
Best Car Seat Strollers for Twins
$ — Baby Trend Double Snap-N-Go ~ $139 — Economy Pick – Lightest frame stroller for twins, but car seats must be “strapped” in (not as secure as being “snapped in”, like the Joovy TwinRoo+). But still highly rated.
$$ — Joovy TwinRoo+ ~ $219 — Editor’s Pick – Infant car seats can face same or opposite directions. Car seats snap in, but not as compact as the Snap-N-Go – make sure it fits in your trunk.
1. Baby Trend Double Snap-N-Go ~ Economy Pick
Price: ~ $139
Weight: 18.13 lbs
At a mere 18 lbs and 39 inches long (yes, 6 lbs lighter and 2.5 inches shorter than the Joovy TwinRoo+), the Baby Trend Double Snap-N-Go is a go-to stroller frame for twins. The newer version of the Snap-N-Go (the “stadium seating” version — the flat version has been discontinued) accepts all brands of car seats. It’s important to know before you buy, however, that unlike the previous Double SNG model, car seats no longer “snap” into the frame. On this version, the frames are bigger and cradle each car seat. You can strap car seats into each frame to ensure they stay in place.
When I first purchased my Double SNG for my twins back in 2016, I was definitely surprised (and concerned) that my two Chicco Keyfit 30 car seats didn’t snap securely into the frame. To me, the seats seemed too wobbly, and I was worried that if we went over a bump, they would tip over and fall out of the frame.
But many other twin moms who owned the Double SNG reassured me that this wouldn’t happen, and that the convenience of the SNG would definitely outweigh this downside. Sure enough, it did. We used this Double SNG for almost a year with no issues — it was an awesome double stroller frame to keep in the car and pull out as needed for trips to the grocery store, mall, zoo, etc.
That said, strapping the seats in doesn’t feel as secure, AND it’s a bit of a pain when compared to the ease of clicking them into Joovy TwinRoo+. That’s the major advantage the Joovy TwinRoo+ has.
People say:
“Works okay with Chicco car seats, but they don’t snap in place but are held down with a belt.”
“This one will hold my Graco SnugRides securely, but the do not lock/click into it.”
Nonetheless, owners of this stroller frame generally like it. It‘s very lightweight (the lightest of the twin frames, in fact) and easy to fold. The Double Snap-N-Go also has two cup holders and a large storage basket, although it can be hard to access once the car seats are in place.
This stroller is small compared to other doubles, but will still take up the entire trunk of a smaller car.
“The frame is very light and fits easily into the trunk of our Camry Hybrid.”
“Fits well in my Chevy Aveo hatchback.”
Bottom Line: The economy Baby Trend Snap-N-Go Double is a perfectly fine solution that’s been around for years and can often be found secondhand. It’s shorter AND lighter than the Joovy TwinRoo+, but the car seats have to be strapped into place.
2. Joovy TwinRoo+ — Editor’s Pick
Price: $219
Weight: 24.4 lbs
In the infant twin stroller frame category, the Joovy TwinRoo+ is a favorite for those that who don’t drive a compact car (it’s too long for some compact trunks).
Cleverly designed to hold two infant car seats facing out to the side, Joovy was able to shorten the overall length (41.5″ long) of the stroller, which in turn allows for greater maneuverability.
The TwinRoo+ allows both car seats to face the same direction (or opposite). This fixes one of the big complaints parents had with the previous version, which was that one baby was always in the sun.
At 24.4 lbs, the Joovy TwinRoo+ is a bit heavier than the Baby Trend Double Snap N Go. It’s also a bit longer (2.5″) than the Baby Trend Double Snap N Go. We highly recommend trying out the stroller in your trunk — or at least measure it to make sure it fits — before you buy.
Here’s what twin mommies say:
“It’s still not terribly huge. I have a 2008 Altima Hybrid with a small trunk and it fits!”
“It’s very easy to maneuver, light and not bulky at all.”
“If I were a billionaire, I’d buy one of these for every mom who has twins. It’s that awesome.”
“The cup holders are perfect because they hold two bottles of milk — one for each baby.”
The Joovy TwinRoo+ has a large under basket for storage. However, like all stroller frames this style, it may be difficult to access larger items with car seats in place.
Customer service for Joovy, a small family-owned company, is top-notch, as noted by many reviewers (Baby Trend’s is not!).
Bottom Line: If your twins’ car seats are on the list above and you don’t drive a tiny car, definitely check out the Joovy TwinRoo+.
Car Seat Strollers….. I see all these lovely options for twins… but do you have a recommendation for Triplets?
Hi Abby — You’re right. There isn’t a lot out there in terms of car seat strollers/frames for triplets. Hopefully that will change. In the meantime, check out this piece on our Best Strollers for Triplets, Quads and Big Families
If i purchase the stroller I’ll have to purchase carseat separately
